You may have noticed a new trend on Instagram – the rise of faceless reels, and specifically faceless accounts. As the name suggests, these accounts thrive without ever revealing the face behind the content, marking a significant shift in digital storytelling and marketing strategies. It seems to be going hand in hand with accounts that are marketing Master Resell Rights courses or affiliate products.

So what’s all the hype about and should you be using them?

Here’s my thoughts on this trend… It’s just that, a trend! Like the old-school Instagram accounts that were all about inspirational quote tiles. They worked for the people that started the trend, but then everyone jumped on the bandwagon and it just became the same content over and over… pretty boring, right?!

The Allure of Anonymity

The appeal of faceless accounts is undeniable. They offer a cloak of anonymity, allowing creators to express themselves or promote products without judgement from family, friends or work colleagues. You don’t have to stress about how you look, what to say, having the perfect lighting or filming location… It’s pretty genius really.

But like all trends, saturation becomes a concern. The uniqueness of faceless reels lies in their ability to stand out with captivating b-roll footage, creative editing, and engaging captions. However, the market is quickly flooding with ready-to-use templates, making originality a challenge.

Navigating the Sea of Sameness

Now you can go on Etsy and Instagram and there’s a million ready-to-go templates available for purchase. Simply create an account, download the templates, post them, and voila you’ll be rich overnight… Or so they tell you! It makes the barrier of entry to digital marketing really easy, but is it really that easy?

The novelty may catch attention for now, but its longevity depends on an ability to infuse creativity and personality into the content, to stand out in a sea of same-same content.

Are Faceless Instagram Accounts Worth It?

Faceless accounts can be worth it if approached with a strategy that aligns with your goals, vision, and mission. They lower the barrier to entry in digital marketing, making it seemingly easy to start. Yet, the real challenge lies in maintaining engagement and growing a loyal following amidst everyone else doing the same.

How Do Faceless Instagram Accounts Make Money?

Monetisation for faceless accounts often hinges on marketing digital products, affiliate marketing, and sponsored content. The secret sauce? Originality in presentation and the strategic use of storytelling to promote products or services, thus capturing the audience’s attention and converting followers into customers.

Can You Be a Faceless Influencer?

Yes, anyone can do anything if they choose to. But whilst it may sound easy, being a faceless influencer means you’ll need to work harder to establish trust and connect with your audience through your content’s quality and the stories you tell. Your success will depend on your ability to create relatable, valuable content that resonates with your followers, even without showing your face.

Like anything.. check in with yourself. Are you just jumping on this because it’s the current shiny thing, or does it align with your goals, vision and mission? Are you just doing it because people have said it’s a lucrative way to make money? Or do you really feel connected to this and can you get creative with it? At the end of the day, the accounts that do well with this are still injecting their personality into it.

The Personal Touch in a Faceless World

Personally, I go on social media to CONNECT with PEOPLE. So while the message on a faceless reel might speak to me, if I go to that account and there’s no person for me to connect with, I’m not really interested in following them or buying from them. I want to know who I’m connecting with and potentially going to be investing with.

At the end of the day, people buy from people. They connect with people. Faceless reels are great to blend in with your existing content system, but if you’re gonna burn everything down and go completely faceless, I’d urge you to reconsider. Are you here to follow trends and get lost in the crowd? OR are you here to make yourself known and build a legacy? If it’s the second, you’re gonna have to show your face!

To navigate these trends and harness the power of content creation effectively, come join me inside my new course Content Codes. We’ll be covering all the ways to create content with confidence and consistency.

Final Thoughts

As always, it’s crucial to remain grounded in our core purpose and the unique value we bring to our audience. Trends come and go, but authenticity and connection stand the test of time. Whether you choose to show your face or embrace the faceless trend, remember that your content’s soul is what truly matters.
