This weekend I decided to head down to Brisbane for a little weekend getaway. It’s funny, most city people escape to the coast. But since I live on the coast, getting back to the city is great fun. So let’s talk about where to stay in Brisbane. Since the city is filled with hotel options, I love to try new places every time I go. And this weekend was no different, actually I was invited to stay at the Pacific Hotel Brisbane. So this was my excuse for heading down to the city and I had a really lovely experience.

Firstly, it took me to an area of the city that I wasn’t familiar with. On my other visits to Brisbane, I’ve stayed closer to the river and CBD area. The Pacific Hotel Brisbane is located just outside of the main CBD area across from the beautiful Roma Street Parkland in the Spring Hill precinct. It’s still only a short stroll into the Brisbane CBD, but it gets you away from the main hustle and bustle without being too far from the action if you want to go into the CBD, which I really liked.

Getting There

Anyone who knows me would know I have a habit of getting lost. No matter where I go, or if I have clear directions or not, if I haven’t been to a place before, I’m guaranteed to get lost. And finding the Pacific Hotel Brisbane was no different for me.

I caught the train into Brisbane and from my map I could see the hotel is located really close to the Roma Street train station. Just one stop out from Central Station, which shows you how central the location still is. So I figured I’d be able to get off the train and easily walk to the hotel.

According to the map it was only meant to be a 5 minute walk. And if you know where you’re going, that’s correct. But I got confused and thought I had to get out of the parkland so I ended up taking a long way around. If you do decide to walk from the station, just follow the paths inside the Roma Street Parkland until you get to Wickham Terrace and then the hotel is right there.

First Impressions

This 4.5 star hotel has recently been refurbished and you can definitely see that when you walk in. Everything is fresh and new looking which I love. The entrance has a nice lounge area opposite the reception desk and the restaurant and bar area leads off to the other side of this.

It’s a modest hotel without too many bells and whistles, but if you’re looking for a relaxing business or leisure stay then this is a great place to do it.

The staff are lovely and very accommodating. I am someone that loves a good view and the first room I was placed in had city views. But I’d seen images on Instagram of beautiful park and sunset views which I really wanted to see, so I asked if I could swap and they moved me without any problems.

The Rooms

I stayed in a Deluxe View Room which is located on the top floors and has great views as mentioned above. If you do book one of these rooms, I recommend asking for a park facing view as that’s definitely the better side.

The room itself is lovely and spacious with a comfortable Queen or King bed, a desk area which is great if you’re there for business, and sliding doors that open out to your own balcony. There’s also a great coffee machine, bathrobes, and the TVs have Netflix access. The bathroom wasn’t anything fancy but it was nice and fully stocked with cute amenities.

Restaurant

The hotel has one main restaurant area with an indoor section and outdoor terrace area. It’s not the fanciest looking restaurant, but don’t let that discourage you. The ambience is lovely with nice music playing, pretty fairy lights, and a view out into the city and park so you can watch the world go by as you eat.

The food is delicious and the bar staff and waiters are lovely. Even the chef came out and had a chat, and explained the thought process behind some of the dishes and helped me with my choices.

I overheard another couple say they’d been back a few days in a row because they loved the food so much, so it’s definitely worth checking out.

Food – Dinner

As you may know, I’m a huge foodie so I decided to make the most of my time at The Pacific Hotel and treat myself to a 3 course meal plus cocktails. I can never say no to an espresso martini.

As far as the food goes, to start I had the sesame chicken san choi bao which was so tasty. A simple dish with extra flair and full of flavour.

Then I had the steak. I always love a good steak and this one was cooked to perfection with some very flavoursome sides.

Food – Breakfast

For breakfast I was able to choose from the continental buffet or the full buffet (including hot food). Naturally, I went for the full buffet as I love to try a little bit of everything.

It wasn’t a huge selection, but everything was delicious. And it’s probably a good thing because when there’s too much food I end up eating way too much. This was just the right amount to try pretty much everything without overdoing it.

Other Facilities

The hotel also has a lovely pool area, a gym, and some function and conference rooms. Overall it is a well rounded, comfortable, and accommodating hotel in a great location.

And, the Roma Street Parkland across the road is definitely worth taking a stroll over to at some point during your stay. Especially to check out the beautiful display in the show gardens.

All in all I had a lovely experience at the Pacific Hotel Brisbane. And if you’re wondering where to stay in Brisbane I highly recommend considering checking it out for yourself.
