Do you find yourself on the constant merry-go-round of needing to book clients but getting burnt out from all the 1 to 1 work? I hear you lovely, in fact I was you! So today I’m going to let you in on a little secret… it’s why a digital course is the best online business model.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by all the things you’re currently doing in your business, and often doing things you’d rather not be doing? There is a better way to scale without having to take on more 1-1 clients. Work on what truly lights you up and serve many more people while you do it. Read on to learn why a digital course is the best online business model.

Digital courses are all the rage these days and for good reason. As a consumer, they’re easily accessible. You can do them at your own pace, from the comfort of your own home, at whatever time you choose. So they have much more appeal than learning in a university type environment.

As a course creator they can save you loads of time and allow you to do more of what you love. Let me break it down in a little more detail… here’s why a digital course is the best online business model.

Talk numbers to me…

This might be my banking background coming out, but I’m a sucker for numbers. And these numbers get me super excited.

Back in 2015 the online learning industry was predicted to hit $107 billion (and it did). Now, experts are predicting it will hit $325 billion by 2025.

It doesn’t really come as a surprise. People love the convenience and flexibility of e-learning. Not to mention, when you compare it to the costs and time it takes to obtain a standard university degree. It makes more sense to educate yourself online instead.

Gone are the days when you actually need a university qualification to be a success. People are succeeding every day online simply by learning niche skills, becoming good at said skills, and then teaching others how to also use those skills.

If I look back over my school and uni years, I came out with some pieces of paper but I still don’t believe they truly equipped me for the real world. I’ve learnt most of my more valuable skills in recent years through building my online business.

And how did I learn all those skills? Through investing in online courses.

When is it time to create your own course?

If the consideration has even remotely popped into your head, then it’s the right time. I sat on my idea for over a year before doing anything about it.

It was a few months after I lost my main source of affiliate income. I realised relying on other companies wasn’t a scaleable method and I should take control by creating something of my own. I actually came across a really interesting free training series which spoke about getting out of the employee mindset and becoming a digital CEO.

And in the series it spoke about scaling your business by abandoning the 1-1 model and applying the 1-many model. There’s many ways to apply this – workshops, courses, events, retreats etc. I so wanted to do it, but at that stage I didn’t have the belief in myself.

So instead, I played it safe, I spent weeks creating hours and hours of training for another affiliate company. I gave them my content and then they got to keep selling it as part of their programs. I was allowed to promote it as an affiliate as well, but it still wasn’t my own because it was all stored under their brand.

And I was constantly having to deal with changes they wanted to make to how everything was packaged and sold. Which got super frustrating. Plus having to deal with all the messages and requests from students that weren’t actually my own because they’d seen me in the training and wanted help from me.

It was a lot of unpaid work which was very time consuming and not scaleable.

So eventually I decided it was time to move on and make something of my own.

Turning an idea into reality

Almost a year after I first decided I wanted to create my own course, I finally took action and turned that idea into a reality.

Creating courses for the affiliate company gave me the confidence I needed to know that my teaching style was liked by others. And that what I was teaching was actually valuable.

Thankfully I already had an idea of what I wanted to create because it was an extension of one of the courses I created for the previous affiliate company. But now I could do it my way.

And that’s when the Boss Branding Academy was born.

Branching out on my own was a scary thing to do. But it’s also been the best. Now I am in control of how everything is run. I get to launch in a method that is suitable to how I like to work. And I get to choose who I work with because I only promote to my ideal clients.

Most importantly I’m no longer spinning my wheels trying to support so many people on a 1-1 level. I am able to scale and serve many more people while spending more time focusing on doing the things that light me up. Like scaling my marketing efforts and creating valuable content for my audience.

So, now that you know why a digital course is the best online business model, are you ready to create your own?

“But what would I teach?”

That’s a question many people ask. And the answer is literally anything. There are courses online for just about anything. So whatever lights you up, whatever you are passionate about, whatever sets your soul on fire.

Start there. Because it’s when your passion shines through in what you do, that people will be drawn to work with you.

“But someone else has already created that course”

No they haven’t. Yes there may be courses out there on similar topics. But no-one has created the course you will create, because you are different.

And it’s your unique experiences and quirks that will make your course different to someone else teaching on a similar topic. It’s your method of teaching, your style of creating content, the way you present yourself and show up online, that will all make yours very different.

Launching and scaling

I don’t know about you, but I pay a lot of attention to the super successful entrepreneurs that I look up to. I watch what they do and I learn from them.

And one thing I’ve noticed is that they all do launches. And this is where an online course becomes super scaleable.

You can literally create the course once, and if you get it right, you will be able to keep selling it over and over and over. Some will do a big launch and then keep their courses available all year round (i.e. Jenna Kutcher).

Others will re-launch annually and have a limited window of time for students to enrol (i.e. Marie Forleo’s B School, James Wedmore’s Business By Design)

There’s no right or wrong way. It’s about what makes sense for your course and the way you run it. But the key thing here is that once it’s made most of the hard work is over. You may add new content or tweak some things here and there based on feedback from your students.

But for the most part, the hard work is done. And that’s how you scale and grow and become super profitable while focusing your efforts in the areas that light you up.

It may not be an instant success, but if you’re willing to put in the effort and delay your gratification for a small amount of time, it will totally pay off.

And that’s why a digital course is the best online business model.
