Don’t worry, this isn’t another one of those boring strategy articles. We’re gonna go way way deeper than that, so brace yourself, things might get a little uncomfortable. It’s time to look at how to build a powerful personal brand in 2020, and beyond. And let me tell you, it’s probably not what you think…

I’m going to have you questioning your entire existence. But if you stick with me until the end, I promise you will have so much clarity. And that’s what this work is all about.

It's time to look at how to build a powerful personal brand in 2020, and beyond. And let me tell you, it's probably not what you think...

Who am I to be talking about this?

Now, let me preface this by saying, I am a personal branding mentor. I do teach and believe in certain social media strategies. I could go on and on about storytelling and content creation, I love a good branding photoshoot. And I’m obsessed with talking about colours and aesthetics, and how your personal style relates to your brand.

BUT, if you truly want to understand how all those pieces come together. You first need to understand and embody the truest and fullest expression of yourself. Because the more you know yourself, the easier it is to stop hiding all the juicy stuff and really start shining your light on the world.

And that’s what we’re going to get into today…

This post came about because this is the work I’ve been doing recently. It’s been intense and powerful stuff. And has taken my brand to a whole new level beyond where I ever thought it could go.

Who Are You Really?

As I started to look at my brand and how I wanted to be seen in the world, I started asking the question “Who Am I, Really?

And this sparked a quest to learn even more about myself. As I delved deeper into this question I started gathering so much interesting information.

It started with finding out my personality type and enneagram, then getting my aura reading, then someone mentioned human design to me and I got so excited to learn more about that, then I started digging into numerology, and ended up getting a karmic insight and past life report done.

So what does any of this have to do with you and your personal brand? I want to encourage you to dig into this too. Through gaining a deeper understanding of who I am, it gave me so much more confidence to show up as myself and really claim my space online.

And that’s exactly what I want for you too.

Now, you might be sitting there thinking this all sounds a little bit too woo woo for my liking. And I get it, but trust me when I say, this is where the magic happens.

You don’t have to do all of the things right away. But I encourage you to at least have an open mind and look into some of it. Because if you’re too scared to truly accept who you are and show all of you to the world, then how can you expect the world to accept you?

How can you expect to build a powerful personal brand, if you’re not truly being yourself?

How to Build a Powerful Personal Brand in 2020

While you ponder that question, let me share some tools and practices that have helped me to fully step into being my brand.

1. Personality Test

I find this to be a good entry point into discovering more about yourself. It’s fun and interactive. It doesn’t require you to go too deep so it’s an easy place to start. You simply answer a series of questions and then based on your answers the test will tell you which of the 16 personality types you fit into.

This test is based on Carl Jung’s theory of psychological types and the Myers Briggs theory.

Whenever I have people take this test they are amazed by how accurate it is. It really helps them to feel seen and understood, and realise why they think and act in certain ways. It’s especially useful if you’ve ever felt misunderstood or like you don’t quite fit in, as it helps you to see that you’re not alone.

I invite you to take this free personality test – https://www.16personalities.com/

You can also read more about the theory behind this test here – https://www.16personalities.com/articles/our-theory

2. Enneagram

Similar to the personality test mentioned above, the Enneagram is another test that helps you to understand your personality better. This testing is based on patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions.

In this test there are nine personality types, each defined by a core belief about how the world works. What the Enneagram aims to do is help us to understand the pros and cons of our belief, so that we can broaden our perspective and approach situations more effectively.

By understanding where you sit on the Enneagram it can help you to determine whether you’re living up to your truest potential, and help you to get back in touch with any important parts of yourself that have been pushed aside in the day to day tone of life.

3. Numerology

Ok, this is where you might find things starting to get a bit woo. But trust me, this is also where it gets really juicy and interesting.

Personality tests are all well and good, but they’re very much reliant on how you’re feeling at the moment you take them so may not always be entirely accurate. Numerology is based on your date of birth, therefore it’s very specific to you.

There are 5 types of numbers that will help you to get a clearer understanding of who you are and what your purpose is. These are your Life Path, Birthday, Soul Urge, Expression, and Personality Numbers. By understanding your numbers, you’ll uncover many fascinating truths about yourself and the opportunities that lay ahead of you. It also helps you to get a strong sense of what you are here to do and guide you on how to live your purpose.

4. Astrology

Now, when I talk about astrology, I’m not just talking about reading your daily horoscope. What I’m referring to is getting your birth/natal chart drawn up. What this chart will tell you is exactly where the sun, moon, and planets were placed in the sky at the moment of your birth.

And when you have this knowledge it gives you an even deeper understanding of your personality, drives, fears etc. It also helps you to understand your power, purpose, and gifts.

Depending how you obtain the chart will determine the level of detail you get. You can either pay an astrologer to do a reading for you, or you can start with a free report online.

I found this site which gave me a very detailed report –  https://astro.cafeastrology.com/natal.php

This article also helps to explain the benefits of birth charts and simplifies how to understand them – https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2016/11/129929/birth-chart-analysis-natal-astrology-reading

5. Human Design

This has been one of the most exciting pieces of the puzzle for me, and whenever I share this information with others they love it just as much. This goes even deeper than your birth chart because not only is it based on your date and location of birth, but the exact time you were born.

When we are born our soul chooses a specific portal based on what it’s here to learn and achieve in this lifetime. Our soul arrives with certain gifts and skills that pertain to that specific portal.

When we are born we are our highest version of ourself, but through conditioning and life experiences we can be taken away from our centre.

There’s 5 Human Design types – Manifestors, Generators and Manifesting Generators are energy beings. Projectors and Reflectors are non energy beings. And each type is designed to work and function really differently.

So learning and understanding your Human Design type is a way to understand how to get back to your centre and have the best chance to live in an aligned and fulfilled way.

Check out Brittany Eastman. I received an hour long in depth video explaining every aspect of my chart to me. It was truly mind blowing!

6. Gene Keys

Similar to the above, your Gene Keys are based on your date, time, and location of birth. There are 64 different types of Gene Keys and your reading will unlock your unique keys to living a fulfilled life.

Your profile starts by uncovering your Genius (deepest purpose in life), Love (how to thrive in relationships) & Prosperity (how to be prosperous). There is a full program to understand your profile and really get deep into understanding your essence, how you’re here to be etc.

This one is very new to me and I’m still learning about it.

7. Archetypes

When I first discovered archetypes I became obsessed. They are everywhere and once you know how to recognise them you’ll start to see the archetypes in everyone you meet.

Archetypes come back to Jung’s theory, and while they are everywhere, he brought it down to 12 main archetypes. Each one contains its own unique set of representations, values, and characteristics.

In another post I’ll dig into branding archetypes, but for now I’d encourage you to learn more about your life archetype. This is also based on your date of birth and give you a lot of insight into why you show up in the world the way you do. And also help you to see who you can potentially become.

8. Embodiment Work

The above tools and concepts are very much based on understanding ourselves in our minds. But we are far more than our minds. And something I learned recently is the importance of doing embodiment work.

A lot of us have gotten so good at burying our stuff deep down inside us. We’re so disconnected from ourselves that we don’t truly feel. Embodiment work is all about getting out of your head and into your body. So you can connect back to source, yourself, your heart, and truly live in alignment.

It’s about getting reconnected to your truest self. And becoming so comfortable with who you are that you aren’t afraid to share any part of yourself with the world.

Some practices to help you become more embodied include: Breath work, movement/dance, allowing yourself to make vocal sounds to express how you feel (like screaming into your hands or a pillow), and becoming aware of physical sensations.

When you become embodied, you can show up in your truest expression. And that’s when you get to create a truly powerful personal brand.

So there you have it. A much deeper insight into how to build a powerful personal brand in 2020 and beyond.

Yes, strategies are important. But what I’ve come to realise in doing this work, is all of us are not created the same. Therefore, a strategy that works for one person won’t necessarily work for another person.

And when we don’t understand ourselves at a deeper level, that can lead us to think we’re broken. It can cause us to keep searching outside for external validation – for courses, coaching, and qualifications.

Wondering why a strategy that works so well for someone else, isn’t quite working for us. Constantly seeking the missing pieces.

Whereas, the true key to our success and obtaining all that we desire, lies right within us.

Building a personal brand is all about forming a deep connection with your audience, stakeholders, and potential clients. And the only way to form a deep connection with others, is to first have a deep connection with yourself.

Knowing who you are. Accepting who you are. And loving who you are, is the true key to showing up in your full power and reaching your potential.

I want you to realise how powerful you are.

To realise how worthy you are.

I want you to have all you desire and more.

And the key to all of that, lies right here, within you.

I understand that this work is uncomfortable. But I also know from firsthand experience, this is the work that has to be done.

You are a human being that gets to connect with other human beings. It’s time you started feeling confident in your unique abilities and sharing THAT with the world.

That’s the essence of your brand.

That’s what will set you apart from everyone else out there.

Are you ready to build a powerful personal brand?
