Welcome to episode 21 of the Branding With Jade podcast. This week we’ll be talking all about the do’s and don’ts of using stock images.

Ok, so we all know good photos are a very big part of establishing a powerful personal brand. Most social media platforms are visual, and even on platforms that aren’t primarily about the visuals it’s important to have some photos to truly bring your stories and writing to life.

But this poses a dilemma if you’re not using the right kind of photos. Which is where stock photos come in useful, but only if you use them right. So let’s get into the do’s and don’ts of using stock images.

Welcome to episode 21 of the Branding With Jade podcast. This week we’ll be talking all about the do's and don'ts of using stock images.

IN THIS EPISODE I’LL BE SHARING:

  • Why stock photos can be useful
  • When to use stock photos
  • How to use stock photos to enhance your personal brand
  • Where to use stock photos

HERE’S WHERE YOU’LL FIND SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS:

>> [5:07] – why good photos are an important part of establishing a powerful personal brand.

>> [10:15] – don’t use photos straight from the internet (i.e. they still have watermarks on them)

>> [13:45 ] – do use photos you have the right to and make sure you read the agreements of individual stock sites as they all have different license restrictions.

>> [15:00] – don’t use photos of other people to tell your own story.

>> [17:00] – do use flat lays, office settings etc. that represent your brand.

>> [17:50] – don’t just rely on stock photos. There’s a time and a place but they shouldn’t be the only kind of photos you use.

>> [19:15] – do edit photos to make them your own – e.g. mockups, graphics etc.

>> [20:45] – don’t use the same free stock photos that everyone else is using. It pays to be picky and find photos that are right for your brand and message.

>> [22:17] – invest in a stock photo subscription site that is well aligned to your brand.

Thanks for listening!

This episode is brought to you by Haute Stock.. This is my go to stock photography site because their photos are by far the best I’ve seen. When I use them they often get mistaken for my own photos because they are so on brand. And they have such a huge selection of palettes and styles to suit every type of brand out there. They upload new image bundles every week. Plus they also have a great selection of quotes and graphics. And right now it’s actually their 5th birthday and to celebrate they are giving out the biggest bundle of all with loads of editable Canva templates on top of access to their entire stock image library.
