Today I want to talk to you about your style and personal branding and how they are inextricably connected.

I believe one of the most overlooked elements of personal branding is personal style. You need to look the part of your brand to ensure you are conveying the right message to your audience and potential clients.

And your off screen style should be reflected in your visual branding online.

One of the most overlooked elements of personal branding is personal style. Let's talk about your style and personal branding and how they are connected. You need to look the part of your brand to ensure you are conveying the right message to your audience and potential clients.

Your style and personal branding – how are they connected?

Essentially you are a walking, talking billboard for your brand.

So if you are creating a particular persona online but that’s not how you are in real life then that’s going to have a disconnect.

And when people do actually meet you or see you it may result in them questioning your authenticity. Or worse still, it may shine through in your marketing as you yourself are not genuinely connecting with what you’re putting out there.

Perhaps you’re afraid to be your true self. Or you’re trying to be something you’re not because you think that’s what you have to do to fit in and attract clients. Or you see other people that are really successful and that’s how you want to be so you try to be them instead of just being yourself.

But the truth it, your ideal clients are going to be drawn to you when you are your authentic self. Because that’s when they’re going to see that you’re thriving and excited. And they’re going to feel that energy emanating from you and be drawn to you.

A huge part of who you are is the clothes you wear.

Every single day you get to get up and have a choice about what clothes you put on. So it’s important to be conscious about what message your clothing is sending out.

For example, if you’re presenting yourself as this 7 figure CEO but you’re always showing up in sloppy clothe. And haven’t put time into your hair and personal grooming, what kind of message do you think that conveys? There’s a bit of a disconnect.

People are very quick to make judgements based on looks alone. So putting effort into your look is a sure fire way to ensure you’re attracting the right kind of audience and opportunities.

For me, clothing has always been a way of expressing myself without having to be a loud person. I love being dramatic in my style It’s a way to let my personality shine through even though I’m quite shy and introverted.

I’ve actually been re-watching Glee recently as it just came out on Netflix in Australia and there’s some moments where Kurt makes some great points about how clothes are an expression of who he is and he is proud to be different.

Not only are your clothes an important expression of who you are.

But your clothing style can directly correlate to your personal branding online.

Knowing that I have quite an eclectic, bold and dramatic style. You’ll see that this is reflected through everything I do online as well.

The colours and fonts I use, as well as the graphics and patterns. Even the language I use are all quite related to the bright, bold, dramatic style. Just like my personality and clothing.

So when it comes to your own style and personal branding. It’s important to understand your style and what it represents. By understanding who you are and what your style means you can be much more deliberate in your personal branding.

When you get up and put your clothes on every day that is a walking, talking representation of who you genuinely are.

So if you translate that same kind of style into your branding people will recognise that as a genuine representation of you. It keeps consistency throughout your brand and people will start to know you for this.
