Finding your why, it sounds a little woo woo I know. But hear me out for a moment. If you don’t take time to think about why you’ve been put on this earth then you could end up leading a very unfulfilling life.

Maybe you think I’m being dramatic.

But think about it for a moment. Up until this point, have you given this much thought?

Learn why finding your why behind your personal brand is so important and follow my step by step process to getting deep and meaningful with yourself

Or have you been more focused on going through the motions. Doing what you think you want to do because of all the external influences that have led you to believe that’s what you want?

The reason I ask is because this is exactly what I was doing. Until I reached a point in my life where the little niggling feeling that there’s got to be more started to consume me. And that’s when I started my journey of self development and entrepreneurship.

In my previous post about what makes a personal brand more powerful, I started to touch on this subject. But it’s quite a juicy topic and definitely deserves a post of its own.

Finding Your Why

When you first think about finding your why you’re probably going to be a bit scattered and unclear. It’s a question we’re not so good at answering as most of our lives are spent answering questions about what we’re doing, but very rarely do people ask us why. It’s almost like there’s this big barrier that you have to break through.

We’re so trained to think about the what that we end up moving through life almost robotically. We get stuck in mundane routines and it’s not until we stop and think about why we’re actually doing what we’re doing that the wheels start to fall off.

Well that’s what happened with me at least.

So how do you go about breaking the barrier?

By now you know my story so I won’t go into it again. This post is a more practical post. One that will help you really dig deep into finding your why. Or your major definite purpose.

In my previous post I shared the book Think and Grow Rich. You can find in depth information about this formula in that book.

But I’m going to break it down for you a little. To show you the exact steps I used when it came to finding my why. And once I found this, everything else just clicked.

This exercise will take at least 30 minutes so make sure you set aside the time to really do this properly. After all, giving up 30 minutes of your time now seems like a very small investment to ensure you have a lifetime full of abundance and happiness.

How much time would you spend watching TV, searching the internet aimlessly, scrolling through social media sites etc.? Cut out just one of those things for today and find your purpose in life. I guarantee if you complete this exercise properly, your entire life will change for the better.

Now let’s start breaking the barrier.

First things first – make sure you have a pen and paper (or computer – I personally prefer handwriting for this type of thing) and go somewhere quiet, away from anyone else, where you can really think.

Write your answer to the question,

“WHAT IS MY LIFE PURPOSE?”

Write EVERYTHING down. Every little thought that pops into your head, we’re delving into sub-conscious levels to gain a deep and meaningful understanding so you want to be writing everything down, no matter how silly that other little voice in your head says it is.

Continue doing this until you find an answer that makes you cry. This proves just how important it is to you. You want it so badly that once you realise you can’t help but cry about it.

Need Some Tips To Get Your Answer? Here’s 10.

  • Write whatever comes to mind – most people think the first things that come to mind are the answer. This is wrong, you just need to get them out of the way so you can dig deeper and get to the root of your soul.
  • Do not filter and overthink – if it comes to mind, write it down. Don’t let your inner voice tell you it’s wrong, we want our sub-conscious minds to be in control for this exercise.
  • Nothing is ok – if you get stuck and the answer that keeps popping up is ‘nothing’, write it down, once it’s on paper the thought is out there and will make way for other thoughts to come through.
  • Get past society’s desires for you – these are not really what you want, these are what you think you want because you’ve been conditioned to think this way – have a stable job, get a promotion, get married, buy a house – all of this stuff is what society wants you to believe you want. If you truly want it, great, but keep going, we’re aiming for a super deep understanding of ourselves.
  • Write any doubts – don’t be afraid of these, it’s a natural feeling to doubt yourself when you’re entering unknown territories. Write these down and move on.
  • Resistance is progress – you might get a nagging feeling to stop and do something else. Do NOT stop at this point, this means you’re getting somewhere. You’re starting to enter that murky territory and your inner voice is telling you to stop, but you need to fight it.
  • Get to your core – start thinking about what makes you want to do the activities you’ve been writing down. How do they make you feel? What do you love about them?
  • The middle doesn’t matter – the final answer is all that matters, the answer where you hit resonance.
  • Keep going until you hit this point of resonance – move in the direction of emotions, get to the answer that evokes your strongest emotions and touches the depth of your soul. This is the final answer you’re looking for.
  • Don’t give up – if you’re really struggling, go away and come back to the task. You will find the answer, you just need to let it out.

There’s no set time frame for reaching this destination.

We’re all different. Some of us know ourselves better than others and may not find this task very hard. Some may have shut their needs down so long ago that it’s really difficult to get them back out. Whatever time it does take, make sure you invest everything you can into this process of breaking the barrier. It will be the foundation for the rest of your life.

How do you know if you reached your answer? You’ll have such a wave of emotions you can’t control and you’ll just know.

Once you have the answer to your life purpose it’s time to craft it into a proper mission statement. A statement that outlines your objective of life. Keep it short and succinct, it should generally only be a few lines long.

For example, my mission statement would be something like this:

“To achieve my highest potential and live my best life, free from the corporate restrictions. Touch thousands of lives and enable people to see the potential within themselves. To help them to become confident and create powerful personal brands so they can also live their best lives. To bring happiness to anyone I meet and live freely and in truth.”

Write this down somewhere where you can see it every day and read it to yourself every day.

The more you focus on this life purpose the more you will attract it into your life. The only real limit is yourself. How badly do you want this and how hard will you work for it. If you’ve dug deep enough to find your real purpose then I guarantee you will not stop until you get it.

Don’t be concerned if your purpose changes over time, this is natural progression. As you edge closer and closer to your life’s purpose you may need to tweak it slightly. Don’t fixate on what you wrote down as it’s natural for you to change as you grow. It’s actually a good idea to regularly review your mission statement and realise how far you’ve come, and delve deeper and deeper to see how far you can really go.

If you’re stil struggling, I’ll leave you with the below question. Have fun and dream a little. There are no boundaries, only the ones you set for yourself.

What one great thing would you dare to dream if you knew you could not fail?

Much Love

Jade xo
