“The Ginger Flower & Food Festival will delight foodies and garden lovers alike with three spectacular days of food, flowers and entertainment.”

That’s all the convincing I needed to decide this festival was worth checking out. Mum and I had been meaning to go to the Ginger Factory while she’s here visiting me anyway. So this happened to be perfect timing.

Where is the Festival?

The Ginger Flower and Food Festival is held at the Ginger Factory in Yandina.

Yandina is one of the oldest towns in the Sunshine Coast and you’ll easily find the exit along the Bruce Highway. If you end up finishing up at the Ginger Factory with time to spare there’s plenty of other sites to explore in this historic town.

When is the Ginger Flower and Food Festival?

The event runs all weekend from Friday 18/1/19 until Sunday 20/1/19 and is open from 9am-5pm each day. However entertainment and stalls run from 10am-4pm.

What’s on at the Ginger Flower and Food Festival?

The festival showcases a spectacular range of ornamental ginger and heliconia plants in various colours. As well as an array of over 3000 plants available to be purchased. With experts there to give you advice on how to correctly look after them.

If you’re feeling a bit peckish head into the tasting room for plenty of delicious taste testers. There’s everything from ginger drinks and tonics, to vinegars, jams and honey

There’s also plenty of entertainment as well as live info sessions from garden and cooking experts. If that’s your thing then you’ll be occupied all day.

Exploring the Ginger Factory

Mum and I weren’t really interested in watching any of the live demonstrations. We preferred to wander about the factory and explore Gingertown. Aside from all the lovely flower displays there’s some cute shops including a little toy workshop and a fudge and nut factory.

You can also wander through the beautiful rainforest and relax over a giant game of checkers. If you’re tired of walking you can give your feet a rest and explore the grounds via the cute old steam train Moreton instead. Then stop for a quick snack in the Ginger Cafe or jump into the Overboard ride. Which reminds me of Disney’s “It’s a Small World” ride.

It’s a great day for all ages to enjoy. And before you leave don’t forget to check out the shop and buy some ginger products to keep you going long after you’ve left.
