A long weekend is always a good excuse to take a quick getaway. So we decided to make the most of this Easter and retreat to the country.

Earlier this year we did a road trip down the south coast of Western Australia and we had intended to climb Bluff Knoll, but due to lack of preparation we ran out of time.

So we saw this 4 day weekend as the perfect opportunity to go back and make it happen.

As usual, we only decided to book a few weeks in advance and with 10 of us accommodation options were limited.

However, we ended up getting into Mt Willyung Retreat, about 20 minutes out of Albany. And I’m so glad we did.

This turned out to be one of the best places we’ve stayed. From the moment we arrived we knew it was going to be a delightful stay.

The house is located on a 1200 acre avocado and beef farm run by the nicest family. It’s one of those hidden gems you would never find on your own. We had to call the owner when we arrived in Mount Barker so she could give us directions and from there she got us to meet her at the end of a gravel road.

We followed her to the property and began our tour of the house, which was just gorgeous. The house has 3 bedrooms plus a garage space which was converted into a bedroom/games room so there was more than enough space for all of us. And pretty much all the rooms had beautiful views out over the farmland.

We were allowed to explore the property as much as we liked which was great fun. It was so interesting to see a real working farm and what goes on there day to day.

It’s the type of place where you’re close enough to everything, but secluded enough to feel like you’re really getting a proper retreat from the city.

If you’re ever looking for an adventure in Albany, then you should definitely consider staying at Mt Willyung Retreat.

There’s plenty to do without having to travel too far, or if you just want to chill out and enjoy the property then this is the perfect place for that.
