Are you conscious of what keeps you up at night?

If I asked you what your number one stress was, the worry that stops you from sleeping, what keeps you up at night, what would your answer be?

Yesterday, I had to go to a Professional Development session where there was presentations by economists and property analysts (thrilling stuff).

Usually I don’t find much of what these people say very exciting, but today one thing stood out for me.

The need to be innovative in an ever changing market place. He was referring to the finance industry, and the need to stand out from the crowd to win deals in a softening market.  But, in general job stability is low and the biggest concern that keeps people awake at night is how they’re going to fund their retirement.

People as young as 20 are already worrying about this.

There are less traditional jobs available, but kids are still spending a fortune on Uni degrees to study for jobs that aren’t even available.

Women worry more because they go on to have kids, leaving them out of the workforce for extended periods causing them more financial stress.

It’s a vicious cycle that has been going on for so long, and doesn’t seem to have an end in sight.

But why? Shouldn’t they be living their young lives, being carefree and happy. Why are 20 year olds having to plan for their retirement?

I’ll refer back to what I’ve raised in earlier posts.

It’s because of the lie society has been telling us for so many years. The lie that is so twisted it’s gotten to the point where people in developed, first world countries, are at the point where they’re literally dying for their jobs.

Statistics show cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the world, accounting for 17.3 million deaths per year and expected to rise to more than 23.6 million by 2030.

The most common day for heart attacks and sudden deaths is on a Monday (read article here). This is just one study but countless others have found the same depressing stats. There is a direct correlation between stress and heart attacks/sudden deaths. And what causes this Monday stress? The dread of returning to work.

So why are we letting our lives fade away right before our eyes. Spending 5 out of 7 days (minimum) going to jobs we dislike, just so we can fund our retirement.

What’s the point of slaving away to fund retirement if, chances are, you’re not even going to make it???

It’s time we all wake up and realise there is a much better way. We do need to think differently and be innovative.

We need to invest in ourselves and build for a better future. One that we can truly say we are happy about. One that gets rid of this financial stress so many people experience.

I’ve found my freedom and you can too.
